The ’70s musical Hair inspires viewers in many ways, but it’s not every day that it inspires an entire footwear line. The show’s Flower Power, free-lovin’ ways did just that to Kickers’ founder Daniel Raufast, who created his collection of hippy-chic shoes in 1970. Though Raufast is now retired, his brand continues to produce sensible, well-made footwear for all ages, with an astounding amount of options for kids.
Kickers’ newest innovation is an eco-friendly collection of shoes and boots made using a Titanium Sanotan tanning method. The footwear manages to be bio-compatible with human tissues, biodegradable, lightweight and chromium-free while maintaining its durability. We’re convinced that these kicks, which can be dressed up or down, will keep up with your zany New York lifestyle, from a day of shopping in Carnegie Hill to a picnic in the park, to scurrying around the Brooklyn Bridge and posh adventures in Soho.
The new Kickers collection is available in stores and online and ranges from $90 to $140.
