Since going to a Yankees game isn’t really an option this year (alas, the game will be played in DC) and family meals hardly count as a family activity, Scooter decided to look into some more under-the-radar, Father’s Day activities bound to impress Dad.

For the explorer:
Father’s Day Scavenger Hunt
Dads and their budding history buffs can sharpen their detective skills together by embarking on a museum tour of the DiMenna Children’s History Museum and a Dad-themed scavenger hunt. Sunday, June 17 at noon. Free with museum admission. Ages 5 and up.

For the outdoorsy:
Father’s Day at the Staten Island Zoo
You may have missed the Mother's Day two-for-one admission special at the Staten Island Zoo, but all is not lost. The zoo is offering the same deal on Father's Day, too; this time, hop a ferry and make it happen! All ages are welcome for this family-friendly fun.

For the musician:
Second Annual Brooklyn’s Best Jumpin’ Jazz Fest, The second iteration of the Brooklyn jazz fest offers families a wealth of musical fun, from live jazz performances (harpist Brandee Younger at 1:30 p.m. and a musical tribute to Louis Armstrong by musician Joey Morant at 4 p.m.) to a screening of jazz doc We Will See Tomorrow (3 p.m.; ages 7 and up) and a special W.O.R.D. UP! Also there will be a session with Mr. Morant reading from Muriel Weinstein's book When Louis Armstrong Taught Me Scat (ages 5 and up).
For more information contact the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.

For the history buff:
Governor’s Island is open every day, even giving bicycle tours at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. Dad’s and their families will have the opportunity to join a National Park Ranger or Volunteer for a 1.5-hour tour of the entire island, including the Monument, Historic District, and the South Island. To start, meet at the National Park Service ticketing center located outside of Castle Williams.
No reservations are required. Bring your own bike!
