The show's Flower Power, free-lovin' ways did just that to Kickers' founder Daniel Raufast, who created his collection of hippy-chic shoes in 1970. Though Raufast is now retired, his brand continues to produce sensible, well-made footwear for all ages, with an astounding amount of options for kids.

Kickers' newest innovation is an eco-friendly collection of shoes and boots made using a Titanium Sanotan tanning method. The footwear manages to be bio-compatible with human tissues, biodegradable, lightweight and chromium-free while maintaining its durability. We're convinced that these kicks, which can be dressed up or down, will keep up with your zany New York lifestyle, from a day of shopping in Carnegie Hill to a picnic in the park, to scurrying around the Brooklyn Bridge and posh adventures in Soho.

The new Kickers collection is available in stores and online and ranges from $90 to $140.

Bonnie Young flanked by her son and daughter, Brando and Celia Babini, at her Fall 2011 fashion show.

Scooter recently tracked down New York City-based mom and children’s luxury lifestyle designer Bonnie Young for a little Q&A on her the story of her brand and how she raises her two kids (Celia and Brando). Founded in September 2006 while Ms. Young worked as Senior Creative Director for Donna Karan Collection, her namesake label offers fanciful fashion and lifestyle products for children ages 0-16.

Now, with a freestanding boutique in Aspen and a retail presence at Harvey Nichols, Bon Marché and boutiques around the globe in posh cities like Milan, London, Paris, and Dubai, the Bonnie Young label has attracted an A-list clientele including Julianne Moore Kate Hudson, Dakota Fanning, Rachel Weisz, Angie Harmon, Courtney Cox, and Goldie Hawn.

Here’s what we found out.

Why did you decide to start your own children’s collection?

The collection was born organically— inspired by my children. When I had my daughter Celia, I had a hard time finding what I wanted for her. She was the flower girl at Gabby Karan's wedding and I ended up making her a dress as well as all the clothes for the kids in the wedding party just because we couldn't find what we wanted.

I was still the Creative Director at Donna Karan. I just kept making clothes and furniture for my kids and friends’ kids because it was easier than searching for product I couldn't find. Eventually it led to launching my own brand.

Where do you draw inspiration from each season?

It’s quite the same as drawing inspiration for a women's collection. I see things that inspire me and spark an idea and then the collection develops. Every season is different. I travel quite a bit, but sometimes I am inspired in New York

What is your favorite piece or design from the newest collection and why?

I love the Anastasia skirt and poncho from my Fall 2012 collection. I made one for myself! They are very unique, rich, over the top pieces yet easy to wear.

The Anastasia skirt

What do Celia and Brando think about what you do?

It’s really all they know. Celia was almost born in the Donna Karan design room. Neither child is interested in fashion. Celia wants to be a singer and actress and Brando a soccer player.

Do your children ever ask you to design clothes for them?

Yes all the time!

How do you balance being a mother with your work/design schedule?

Every day is a new challenge and a balancing act!

Any advice for other working moms (or dads)?

Breathe.

What do you love most about New York City for kids?

I love the ease of getting around New York City and the variety it offers. When I was a kid, my parents drove me into the city to go to art school once a week. My kids have everything at their fingertips!

What are your favorite things to do with Celia and Brando in the city?

Going to the river!
