Disney On Ice Skates Into Brooklyn

Love it or hate it, the new Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn is a hit. From Barbra Streisand and Journey to the Brooklyn Nets and Bob Dylan, the venue has attracted some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment. Now the young ones will have something to rejoice about: on Tuesday, November 27, Disney On Ice will debut Rockin’ Ever After at Barclays Center.

Art Day Celebration Fundraiser for Diakonos Orphanage in Haiti

On Wed., June 20, Art in Motion and Life Preservers Inc. will present a special Art Day Celebration at 1Oak in support of children’s art programming in Haiti. The evening will feature art exhibits and a fashion show coordinated by Runway Haiti at 8p.m., followed by a live performance by Grammy-nominated Universal Records artist Shontelle at 9:30.

Art Day Celebration believes that youth are the number one resource for shaping the future of Haiti and aims to empower orphaned children to find and express their individual voices through the medium of art. Read More

Great Gathering of Chefs Fights Childhood Hunger with Family-Friendly Tasting

The 8th Annual Great Gathering of Chefs to benefit Action Against Hunger will take place Tuesday June 5th at The Prince George Ballroom in Manhattan. The family-friendly evening will also celebrate the release of cookbook Street Eats by food photographer Alan “Battman” Batt.

The book features recipes and culinary words of wisdom from renowned chefs including Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Daniel Boulud, David Burke and Emeril Lagasse and reality stars Matt Corbett and “Iron Chef” Marc Forgione. One hundred copies will be signed by a lineup of celebrity chefs present at the benefit, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support Action Against Hunger initiatives that work to save the lives of malnourished children around the world. Children’s Rights to Host First Spring Young Leaders Benefit

The youth welfare advocacy and watchdog non-profit Children’s Rights has announced its first annual Spring Young Leaders Event, to take place Thursday June 7 at 49 Grove. Founded by civil and adolescent rights activist Marcia Robinson Lowry, Children’s Rights started as a venture of the New York Civil Liberties Union and then the American Civil Liberties Union, before establishing itself as a self-sufficient nonprofit in 1995. Children’s Rights fights legal suits on behalf of child welfare and foster care initiatives and publishes national policy reports to generate awareness on the injustices many children suffer in the U.S. Read More
